With its clear reference to the tropics, strelitzia nicolai has long been a houseplant favorite. Note: its large leaves have adapted to split over time to allow wind to pass through, so fear not - splitting leaves are completely normal!

Watering

Strelitzia like moist, but not consistently wet soil. Check the top 2cm of soil has dried out before watering.
Light & Placement
- Bright, indirect light and some direct light. A south-facing window works best.
Humidity
- Strelitzia like a decent amount of humidity, which you can increase with a humidifier, with regular misting or by grouping plants together.
Good to know
- Give it a feed with liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.
- Strelitzia are mildly toxic to children or pets if ingested.
